American SeaGlass Jewelry is a small, family owned and operated business based in a coastal town of Massachusetts. Our business started in the middle of January 2013, long before any hint of spring, let alone summer was around, but our story goes further back in the years.
Ray, the business' owner has long been an outspoken advocate for buying American made items. Every chance he had, he would buy the American made item over a foreign item because he believes that building America means building things in America. So every item was first checked for "the label". This issue of his became a family issue. His wife and his two children also began to check for the label in toy stores and other places. It was pretty much contagious.
After years of finding it harder and harder to find merchandise actually made here in the United States, he decided to put his money where his mouth was and started this jewelry design business. So, in the dead of a harsh New England winter, Ray began American SeaGlass Jewelry.
The reason for him to turn sea glass into jewelry was inspired by a piece of sea glass his brother brought from Martha's Vineyard. It was wrapped with a silver plated, copper wire hanging from a rawhide type necklace. He was in awe that essentially a piece of glass could be turned into a gem just through nature churning it about in the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.
Sea glass also is a great way to bring back memories of what he believes is the best season of the year, summer. Childhood memories of fishing, swimming and long days at the beach are brought to the forefront of our minds just by looking at a piece of sea glass. That is his hope he can do for his customers. He wants to create something that brings out the child in everyone, to remind ourselves of the great times we had during the summer with friends, family and sometimes even complete stranger we met for one day and bringing a smile to their faces.
